The Coral Gold Cup – The Jewel in Newbury’s Crown

Known as the premier handicap National Hunt steeplechase in Great Britain, the Coral Gold Cup is a race that runs at Newbury over a distance of about 3 miles and 2 furlongs. It is open to horses four years old and older. The race has 21 fences and is a competitive affair.

Le Milos

Traditionally the jewel in Newbury's crown, the Coral Gold Cup is one of the most famous handicap chases in the calendar. It was formerly known as the Hennessy Gold Cup and has been run at the famous course for sixty years. The race is worth a tidy PS250,000 and has seen some high-class horses win on their way to the Grand National.

Le Milos was impressive in his first start for Dan Skelton in the Betfair Chase at Bangor seventeen days ago. He showed his class on heavy ground and was well backed to repeat the feat at Newbury on Saturday. The fourlb penalty should do the trick.

Remastered was impressive in his win at Aintree three weeks ago. His well being was evident and the horse will now be going for lengthy distance races. Dan Skelton is hoping Le Milos will cope with the conditions at Newbury and be prepared for the Grand National.

Le Milos isn't the only Skelton trained horse to have taken part in the Coral Gold Cup. Others include Busselton, Remastered and Diablo De Rouhet. The Skelton team have also won the race on Sizing Tennessee (2018) and Madison Du Berlais (2008).

Le Milos is the outright favorite at the moment. He is a bay gelding who was born on 14 April 2015. He is out of the mighty Banjaxed Girl and King's Theatre, and was bred by Robert Chugg. He was formerly trained by Tim Vaughan and is now in the hands of Dan Skelton. The seven-year-old has won two chases for Tim Vaughan, including the Betfair Chase, and has already taken part in the Coral Gold Cup. He has run well on heavy ground and was impressive in his first start under Skelton.

During the mid-1960s, Arkle was a dominant force in the Gold Cup. He won three consecutive Gold Cups from 1964 to 1966. During that period, he won 22 of the 26 fences races. Arkle's treble is considered one of the greatest achievements in steeplechase history. He also won the Broadway Chase at the 1963 National Hunt Festival.

Arkle's hat-trick was made possible thanks to his impressive performance in the 1965 Hennessy Gold Cup. In that race, Arkle defied 12st 7lbs. He also placed in the GC, finishing runner-up to Fair Along.

Arkle is still considered one of the greatest steeplechasers in history. He has a fantastic record in the Coral Gold Cup. He has won 27 of 35 starts. His record is even better when we look at his career stats. His career win rate is the highest of any horse in the history of the Coral Gold Cup.

Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury is a three and a quarter mile handicap chase. The race attracts the best horses in the National Hunt racing calendar. It is also the first big handicap chase of the season. Previously, it was held at Cheltenham, but it was switched to Newbury in 1959.

Hennessy's sponsorship began in 1957. Arkle is one of three racehorses to have won the Gold Cup more than once. The others are Golden Miller and Easter Hero.

Many Clouds

Known as the Ladbrokes Trophy before, the Coral Gold Cup is the pinnacle of the jumps calendar in Newbury, UK. The prestigious race is a handicap chase over 3 miles and one furlong. It is also a race that has produced many notable winners over the years.

The Coral Gold Cup is now regarded as the premier staying handicap chase of the season. The race has produced some excellent winners over the years, including Native River, Denman and Bobs Worth. The former won the Coral Gold Cup in 2011 and 2014.

The Coral Gold Cup is worth PS250,000, and takes place over two days in November. It features a Long Distance Hurdle and bet365 Long Distance Hurdle. It is a Grade 2 race.

The Coral Gold Cup is a great way for high class horses to prepare for the Cheltenham Gold Cup. The top three betting horses are Djakadam, Many Clouds and Protektorat. Djakadam has been rated 2lbs higher than Many Clouds. Thistlecrack, the current favourite, has been shifted to 7-4 from 4-5. This is a big shift for a horse that finished second to Many Clouds in last year's Gold Cup.

Many Clouds was not in his best form when sixth to Cue Card in the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby last month. However, he had been running well and had been given a 5lb penalty for defeat. He did show some smart form as a novice last season.

Native River

Having landed the Hennessy Gold Cup and the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Native River has been confirmed to run in the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury on 26 November. He is the second horse to win the race twice, and has produced one of the best weight-carrying performances in the race. He has been cut to 6/1 from 8/1 and will be running for trainer David Pipe.

He has been a winner at Cheltenham, having beaten Might Bite by four and a half lengths in the feature race. He was also a winner at Aintree, where he beat Ballyoptic by a head in a handicap chase. He has run in a number of races for trainer Colin Tizzard, winning 11 of his 24 chase starts. He has also finished fourth in the 2020 Coral Welsh National, where he finished behind Al Boum Photo.

Native River is a relatively quiet horse, compared to many of the other thoroughbreds, and will have no problem standing still when approached by photographers at the red carpet. He is also one of the quickest horses around, and has a good record on soft ground.

He will be ridden by Tom Scudamore, who has ridden Gericault Roque to win the race in both of its previous renewals. The pair are likely to stay together in the Coral Gold Cup, where Scudamore has won six of the past 20. He was also on Remastered last year, which finished third in the race.

It is difficult to find an obvious winner. But Remastered is one of the two horses from the Pipe stable that will line up at Newbury. The horse has won a few notable races, including the aforementioned pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle at Aintree. The horse also has an impressive win to his name from the Cheltenham Festival, where it beat the likes of Milan Bridge. It also beat the odds in the Coral John Francome Novices' Hurdle at Kempton.

It is also a fair bet that Remastered will be back at Newbury to defend his crown in the PS250,000 Coral Gold Cup. The horse has the ability to go for a long time and is within the Welsh Nationwide, which is a good thing considering the quality of the field.

One of the other interesting entries from the Pipe stable is the Oscar Elite. He has a decent record in the Coral Gold Cup, winning the small-c competition in 2011 and finishing runner-up to Corach Rambler last year. He also has a good win to his name, winning the Ultima Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in 2012. He will probably have to fight off stiff competition for the win, but the horse is still in good shape.

ANNSAM is a 7 year old gelding that has been actively steered away from a gentle floor. The gist is this could reverse weight at Newbury and could even win a big handicap chase. It is also a well bred and has plenty of room to grow. It was only the first time that he has run at Wetherby in a hurdling event, where he finished an eye-catching 10-length second to Proschema.
